Changing things up. When I first started thinking about this blog, it was early in the pandemic. We had just decided to fold the gym and I needed a space to put my thoughts. I also at that time had no idea we would STILL be in a pandemic almost a year later. The idea of “The Empty Nest” came about because my oldest was supposed to be heading off to university in the fall with her younger sister not that far behind. It was a transition I knew would be a tough one. However, here we are. They are both at home doing their studies and while I do love every minute of them being home… my nest is FAR from empty. I still have 800 dishes in the sink, laundry out the ying yang and all the other stuff that comes with four people living under the same roof full-time.
The other thing I was finding was that I was completely uninspired. While I certainly enjoy some domestic duties, I’m definitely not passionate about it. Every time I had an idea to write about – it fell back on fitness, health and self-care. The very things I was trying to make go away. Turns out I can’t. Its a part of who I am. I’ve invested a shit ton of time and money into a million certifications, courses and learning. I worked as a group fitness instructor for 3 years before becoming certified as a personal trainer and then as a fitness educator. Even though I’m not actively training clients, I’m still living and breathing fitness every single day. This is what lights my fire. What I’m inspired to write about and share. Something I hope to continue to inspire others with – even if not in a traditional one on one personal training set-up.
For now, it will be my “hobby”. I’m hoping once we are done with this covid bullshit – it can become something more. I have ideas but certainly do not want to commit to anything that will lead to another broken heart.
This year brought me back into the mountains. Something I had not done since pre-kids (or at least not a whole lot). My therapy is outdoors. Exerting myself physically and mentally. Turns out I have a thing for red wine as well. They compliment each other quite nicely! I hope you’ll follow along, learn, laugh and find joy in what I have to share.
PS – I am not changing my old posts – I’m way too lazy for that!
